Mamy Ravatomanga Detained at Melrose Prison
Mamy Ravatomanga was taken to Melrose Prison in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 2, 2025. His detention follows his arrest by the Financial Crimes Commission on Friday, October 24.
Mamy Ravatomanga had not been placed in a cell for 39 days since his arrest due to health reasons. On December 2, he underwent a series of medical examinations at Victoria Hospital and Brown Séquard Psychiatric Hospital. After receiving medical clearance, he was detained at Melrose Prison.
The Malagasy businessman faces three preliminary charges: two for money laundering and one for conspiracy. The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) accuses him of misappropriating Rs 6.4 billion and Rs 858 million to Mauritius, which allegedly stem from illegal activities. He is also accused of colluding with David Jean Christian, Nasser Osman Beekhy, and Me Junaid Haroon Fakim, the former FCC commissioner, to commit an influence peddling offense in relation to the FCC investigation.
Mamy Ravatomanga arrived in Mauritius on a private jet from the Sodiat Group, landing on the night of October 11, while accompanying former Prime Minister Christian Ntsay. The arrival of this jet sparked controversy and an airport police investigation.
The businessman was interrogated by the FCC in the presence of his treating doctors from Premium Care Clinic. He was subsequently brought before the court and held for investigation purposes, but very few interrogation sessions have occurred since. Due to health concerns, Mamy Ravatomanga has been under observation at Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital and later at Premium Care Clinic in Phoenix.
On Friday, November 7, while he was supposed to be detained at Vacoas Detention Centre, Mamy Ravatomanga was taken to Victoria Hospital after complaining about his health upon arrival at the detention centre. He was later transferred to the Coronary Care Unit at Victoria Hospital.
Dev Jokhoo, Commissioner of Prisons, stated that Maminiana Ravatomanga is being held in the Marygold Unit at Melrose Prison. Upon arrival on Tuesday, he was examined by prison doctors and all formalities were completed according to standards. Jokhoo noted that Mamy Ravatomanga is in good spirits.
Mamy Ravatomanga is in the Marygold Unit, where other foreign nationals are detained, but no other Malagasy individuals. "Mamy Ravatomanga is under 24/7 video surveillance," the commissioner stated.
Regarding his medical treatment, Dev Jokhoo assured that necessary arrangements have been made for Mamy Ravatomanga to receive the required care. "In any case, we have a nurse who is present near his cell at all times," he emphasized.
