Mauritian Athletes Honored for Exceptional Performances

Several para-athletes, badminton players, and cyclists from Mauritius who have made the nation proud in recent months were honored on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, during a cash award ceremony held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Port Louis. The event recognized their hard work, talent, and remarkable achievements on both the continental and international stages.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Deven Nagalingum, and the Deputy Minister, Karen Foo Kune-Bacha, who commended the athletes for their outstanding performances.

Para-athlete Noémie Alphonse, who won the T54 100m at the World Para Athletics Championships in India, received the highest award of the day with a cheque for Rs 1.5 million. At the same championship, Anaïs Angeline, who earned a silver medal in the T37 long jump, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 million.

In cycling, Kimberley Le Court de Billot-Pienaar received Rs 100,000 for her victory at the Giro Dell’Emilia in Italy on October 10, while Alexandre Mayer, winner of the Chantal Biya Grand Prix in Cameroon, also received the same amount.

Several badminton players were recognized for their consistent performances, including Mathieu Leo Douce, who received Rs 39,000; Rishab Koolomuth and Chavi Ramlagan, who each received Rs 16,000; and Divyana Sawaram, Ember Leefye, Yashveer Rambaran, Shreyans Ramkalawon, Mokshita Sookuram, and T. Ragavaloo, who each received Rs 8,000. Badminton coach Zuel Alexis was awarded Rs 6,000.

Coaches who played a key role in supporting and guiding the athletes were also acknowledged. In para-athletics, Jean-Marie Bhugeerathee, coach of Noémie Alphonse, received Rs 540,000, while Nicolas Angeline, coach of Anaïs Angeline, was awarded Rs 360,000. In cycling, Jeroen Swart, coach of Kimberley Le Court de Billot-Pienaar, received Rs 40,000.
