Constitutional Review Commission: Members Announced
The government has approved the proposed composition of the Constitutional Review Commission. This commission will be chaired by former Chief Justice Y. K. J. (Bernard) Yeung Sik Yuen (GOSK) and will include several prominent figures from the legal and academic fields. Its members will include: Yanilla Moonshiram (SC), Satyajit Boolell (SC) (photo), Dr. Amar Roopanand Mahadew, Dr. Jonathan Ravat (OSK), Dr. Milan Meetarbhan (GOSK), Dr. Amenah Jahangeer Chojoo, Joël Edouard, Anne-Sophie Jullienne, Danisha Sornum, and Sabir Kadel, who will serve as the secretary.
Additionally, a bill is currently being drafted by the Attorney General's Office. This legislation aims to provide the commission with a clear legal framework by defining its mandate, powers, and functions. Once finalized, it will be submitted to the Cabinet before being introduced to the National Assembly. The government has also clarified that the commission's mandate will not include electoral reforms, which will be addressed separately in another institutional framework. This was reported following the Cabinet meeting held on Friday, January 30, 2026.
