Weather: Heavy Rain Advisory in Effect
A heavy rain advisory is currently in effect in Mauritius and will remain valid until 7:00 PM this evening. At around 4:00 AM, the strong tropical storm Fytia was located at approximately 23.0 degrees south latitude and 53.9 degrees east longitude, about 465 km southwest of Mauritius. It is moving southeast at about 12 km/h, according to the weather bulletin from the Vacoas station issued this Tuesday, February 3.
The weather will gradually become cloudy to overcast this morning and in the afternoon, with scattered showers primarily in the north, west, and central plateau. These showers could be moderate to locally heavy at times, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms. Pockets of fog are also expected in certain areas.
The maximum temperature will range from 25 to 27 degrees Celsius on the central plateau and from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius in coastal regions.
Showers will become less frequent during the night.
The minimum temperature will be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius on the central plateau and between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius along the coast.
Winds will blow from the north at around 20 km/h.
The sea will be rough beyond the reefs, with swells from the southwest up to 2 meters.
In the event of heavy thunderstorms, the public is advised to:
- Stay sheltered and avoid plains, hiking, and sea outings, as well as not seeking shelter under trees during storms;
- Avoid areas prone to water accumulation;
- Exercise caution on the roads due to reduced visibility from heavy rain and fog.
