Israel Targeted by Iranian Missile Fire

Israel Targeted by Iranian Missile Fire

Israel was targeted by Iranian missile fire on Sunday for the first time since the ceasefire declared on April 8. The Israeli army stated that it would continue its operations "throughout Lebanon," despite Iran's threats to retaliate more broadly if there are more Israeli strikes. Trump, believing that such exchanges could harm negotiations, expressed a desire to ask Netanyahu not to respond.

On Sunday, June 7, the Israeli army reported that it was the target of Iranian fire for the first time since the ceasefire announced on April 8.

Alert sirens sounded in large areas of northern and central Israel, including the cities of Haifa, Caesarea, and Hadera, according to the army.

A few minutes after its initial statement, the army released a second one, indicating that a "new barrage of missiles has been fired towards the State of Israel."

"Following the assessment of the situation, educational activities cannot take place," stated the Ministry of Education and the Home Front Command (a branch of the army) in a joint statement. Iran had threatened on Sunday to target American and Israeli interests in the Middle East following an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut that resulted in two deaths.

"IDF Will Continue Its Operations Throughout Lebanon"

The Israeli army claimed on Sunday to have intercepted all missiles fired from Iran and indicated that new launches had been detected.

For its part, Iran warned that its missile strikes on Israel were a "warning," stating that any further aggression would provoke a "stronger response."

"Tonight’s operation is a warning. If such aggressions occur again, the response will be broader and will target all American-Zionist interests in the region," declared the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a statement.

Iran made a "serious mistake in once again choosing the path of terrorism," declared Brigadier General Effie Defrin, spokesman for the Israeli army, during a brief televised address. "We will not allow attacks targeting the citizens of the State of Israel to continue."

The Israeli army will continue its operations "throughout Lebanon" and "intensify pressure" on the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah, he added.

"We struck (the southern suburbs of Beirut) in response to the ongoing fire from Hezbollah on northern Israeli communities," he added.

"The IDF will continue its operations throughout Lebanon and intensify its strikes against the terrorist organization Hezbollah," he continued, "we will not allow attacks targeting the citizens of the State of Israel to continue."
