Rs 30 Billion Oil Contracts Awarded by the STC: Kareena Neisius Appears in Court

Kareena Neisius appeared at the Rose-Hill court this Tuesday morning, April 29. The director of Mercantile & Maritime Group (MMG) was arrested last night following her questioning under caution by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC). A provisional charge of "conspiracy to commit the offence of money laundering" has been filed against her.

Yesterday, Kareena Neisius faced evidence deemed incriminating in the FCC's investigation into possible irregularities surrounding the awarding of Rs 30 billion oil contracts by the State Trading Corporation to her firm. Once arrested, the MMG director had to be taken to Victoria Hospital in Candos by an ambulance after collapsing during her nine-hour long questioning.

It is important to note that this is the first arrest in the FCC's investigation into possible irregularities and conflicts of interest related to the awarding of Rs 30 billion contracts by the STC to MMG for the supply of petroleum products during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Investigators are trying to establish any connections between Kareena Neisius and the former director general of the STC, Rajiv Servansingh, regarding the awarding of these import contracts for gasoline, diesel, and Jet A1 fuel intended for the Mauritian market, covering the period from August 2023 to July 2024.
