Madagascar: The Presidency Denounces a 'Coup Attempt' and Assures That Rajoelina 'Remains Fully in Office'

The presidency of Madagascar denounced on Tuesday a 'coup attempt' following the military's announcement of a takeover, assuring that President Andry Rajoelina, who was ousted by a vote from the National Assembly, 'remains fully in office.'
'The Republic of Madagascar cannot be held hostage by force,' the presidency stated in a communiqué, while the location of the president, who is in a 'safe place,' remains secret. Earlier, the military unit aligned with the protest movement announced it was 'taking power' and suspending the Constitution.
