How Did Junaid Fakim Come Face to Face with Mamy Ravatomanga? Clarifications from His Lawyer

Junaid Haroon Fakim was unaware that he would be meeting Mamy Ravatomanga during a significant gathering at a house in Quatre-Bornes. This was disclosed by his lawyer, Me Urmila Boolell, to the press on Thursday, October 30, following her exit from the Rose-Hill district court.

According to the lawyer, her client was initially supposed to meet Nasser Beekhy, a family acquaintance. She noted that Beekhy had contacted Junaid Fakim's brother one morning to request a meeting. Junaid Fakim confirmed that he would be there that evening.

"He thought he was going to meet Mr. Beekhy regarding a legal issue that Mr. Beekhy might have…", explained Me Urmila Boolell.

When Junaid arrived at his brother's place, Nasser Beekhy was already there. Beekhy then received a call before informing the two brothers that he would connect them with a businessman. This was when Mamy Ravatomanga and two other individuals arrived.

During their discussion, Junaid Fakim realized that the conversation revolved around his role as a commissioner of the FCC. He subsequently called Sanjay Dawoodarry.

"He called Mr. Dawoodarry to ask if there was anything…", reported the lawyer.

She stated that the Acting Director of the FCC informed him that "a whole machinery would be set in motion" concerning this matter.

"He already knew it was ‘conflicted’… then he went back in and said excuse me, I’m leaving… and he left…", added Me Urmila Boolell.

Junaid Haroon Fakim was arrested on Thursday and provisionally charged with influence peddling. During his appearance at the Rose-Hill district court, the FCC denied his bail request, citing two objections: interference with witnesses and "tampering with evidence." His arrest is linked to the investigation concerning the Malagasy businessman Mamy Ravatomanga, who is currently under investigation in Mauritius for alleged money laundering.

Junaid Fakim was subsequently taken to Victoria Hospital in Candos for medical examinations after his court appearance in Rose-Hill.
