PQ: Rs 73 Million Already Spent to Subsidize Five Essential Products, According to Minister Sik Yuen
During the Private Notice Question (PNQ) at the National Assembly on Tuesday, November 25, the cost of living dominated discussions. In response to opposition leader Joe Lesjongard, Commerce Minister Michael Sik Yuen stated that Rs 73 million has already been paid to merchants and importers to subsidize five essential products: powdered milk, cooking oil, infant milk, baby diapers, and processed cheese.
The minister assured that the household shopping basket remains stable, with price reductions ranging from 5% to 24%.
His response, which lasted for 25 minutes, was followed by lively exchanges in the chamber. Michael Sik Yuen also announced that the State Trading Corporation (STC) is considering importing additional essential products to further ease the household budget.
