Fatal Assault at Melrose Prison: Andy Selmour Succumbs to Skull Fracture
In a tragic incident at Melrose Prison, inmate Andy Selmour has died due to a skull fracture. This conclusion was reached following an autopsy conducted this afternoon by Chief Police Medical Officer Sudesh Kumar Gungadin. The examination also revealed multiple injuries to the inmate’s arms.
Initially, the autopsy had been postponed because Selmour's mother, who was overseas, expressed her desire to be present for the post-mortem examination.
Andy Selmour passed away Tuesday night at Melrose Prison after being violently assaulted during an altercation with other inmates. Surveillance camera footage proved crucial for the investigation, showing an inmate repeatedly striking Selmour's head with a blunt object.
On Tuesday evening, following a search in Kestrel Yard, investigators discovered two sticks hidden in separate locations: one in a concealed spot and the other near a trash bin. These are suspected to have been used during the assault and have been sealed for analysis.
As a result of the incident, two senior prison officials have been suspended, and four inmates have been questioned by the CID.
