PNQ on Night Markets: 750 Seasonal Merchants Authorized to Operate, Announces Shakeel Mohamed
Approximately 750 seasonal merchants are authorized to operate at Night Markets across various regions of the country. This was stated by Shakeel Mohamed in response to a Private Notice Question (PNQ) raised by opposition leader Joe Lesjongard in Parliament on Friday, December 12. The PNQ primarily addressed the selection criteria, the identified sites, and the proposed security measures.
Regarding Port-Louis, Shakeel Mohamed acknowledged that, following complaints from some vendors, the municipality is currently exploring several solutions. Alternatives are being considered for those not selected in Port-Louis, assured the Minister of Housing and Lands.
Furthermore, the government official claimed that the selection process was conducted with utmost transparency.
From the outset, this PNQ was marked by a protest from Joe Lesjongard, who argued that his question was directed at the Minister of Local Government, Ranjiv Woochit, but was answered by Shakeel Mohamed instead. This situation has caused frustration for the opposition leader.
