Link Road in Cascavelle: Immediate Measures to Enhance Safety
Just three days after its inauguration, the Link Road in Cascavelle has already witnessed several serious incidents.
On Saturday, around 6:20 PM, a vehicle suddenly lost control near the Cascavelle roundabout. In an attempt to overtake, it first brushed against another car before crashing head-on into a Mitsubishi Pajero and a BMW, ultimately overturning on the road. The driver was found to have a blood alcohol level of 70 micrograms.
Then, on Monday morning, according to Transport Minister Osman Mahomed, who visited the scene, six Porsche vehicles were spotted driving at 180 km/h, while the maximum speed limit on this road is 80 km/h.
In response to these reckless behaviors, immediate measures have been announced to prevent further incidents while awaiting the implementation of a points-based driving license system. These measures include the installation of automatic speed cameras, the placement of traffic signs, an increase in police presence, and, if necessary, the installation of barriers.
