In Court: Roger Marie on Trial for the Murder of His Partner

Roger Sheldon Yannick Marie, a 30-year-old former assistant driver from Pointe-aux-Sables, is on trial at the Assizes Court. He is charged with the unpremeditated murder (manslaughter) of his partner, Marie Joëlle Martine Fineau, née Numa, aged 43.

The events date back to February 12, 2022, in Terrasson, Pointe-aux-Sables. The victim's body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found in a septic tank at the defendant's home.

Marie has pleaded not guilty before Judge Iqbal Maghooa. He is facing a jury composed of six men and three women. On Wednesday, the judge will give his summing-up before the jurors retire to deliberate. The verdict will be delivered at a later date.

Roger Sheldon Yannick Marie is represented by lawyers Zakir Mohamed and Yousuf Azaree. The prosecution is led by Nalini Senevrayar-Cunden, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, and Yanish Jeerasoo, State Counsel.
