Trial: Roger Marie Found Guilty of Murdering His Partner, Sentencing Discussions This Thursday
Guilty. This was the verdict announced on Wednesday in the Assizes Court. By a majority of seven jurors to two, Roger Sheldon Yannick Marie was found guilty of killing his partner. Discussions regarding his sentencing will take place this Thursday. Previously on probation, the accused was taken into custody on Wednesday.
A former assistant driver aged 30, Roger Sheldon Yannick Marie was charged with manslaughter of 43-year-old Marie Joëlle Martine Fineau, née Numa. He pleads not guilty. The incident dates back to February 12, 2022, in Terrasson, Pointe-aux-Sables. The victim's body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was discovered in a septic tank at the accused's residence.
After the hearing, a confrontation erupted between relatives of the accused and those of the victim. Police, supported by security personnel, intervened to restore order.
The trial is presided over by Judge Iqbal Maghooa. Roger Sheldon Yannick Marie is defended by Attorneys Zakir Mohamed and Yousuf Azaree, while Attorneys Nalini Senevrayar-Cunden, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, and Yanish Jeerasoo, State Counsel, represent the prosecution.
