[In pictures] Allegations of wrongdoing: former Planet FM director Arvind Nilmadhub in Port-Louis court

Arvind Nilmadhub, the former director of Planet FM, appeared in front of the Port-Louis court on Wednesday, February 4. His operating license was revoked by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) on August 3, 2020, and he was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) in the early evening on Tuesday, February 3.

This arrest is part of allegations of misconduct related to residency permit applications for several foreign nationals. According to information available to the FCC, significant amounts of money in US dollars were reportedly transferred to Arvind Nilmadhub's bank account in 2021.

He is suspected of money laundering. The FCC alleges that on December 9, 2021, he held $150,000 (Rs 6,967,500 based on the exchange rate at the time) in the bank account of Afribrains Holdings Ltd. These funds are believed to have come from a questionable source.

Furthermore, the investigating body claims that a transaction of $75,000 (Rs 3,483,750) occurred in this same bank account in May 2023.

He spent the night at the Moka detention center. On Wednesday, Arvind Nilmadhub will be presented before the Port-Louis court for his provisional charges under the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act (FIAMLA).
