Arvind Nilmadhub Remains in Custody

Arvind Nilmadhub, the former director of Planet FM, whose operating license was revoked by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) on August 3, 2020, appeared before the Port-Louis court on Wednesday, February 4, facing two provisional charges under the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act. He was remanded in custody following his court appearance.

He was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) on the evening of Tuesday, February 3. This arrest is part of an investigation into allegations of misconduct related to residency permit applications for several foreign nationals.

According to information held by the FCC, significant amounts of money in US dollars are said to have transited through Arvind Nilmadhub's bank account in 2021.

Arvind Nilmadhub is suspected of money laundering. The FCC alleges that on December 9, 2021, he held an amount of 150,000 US dollars (Rs 6,967,500 at the current exchange rate) in the bank account of Afribrains Holdings Ltd. The FCC claims these funds are from a source considered suspicious.

Furthermore, according to the investigating body, a transaction of 75,000 US dollars (Rs 3,483,750) was conducted on this same bank account in May 2023.
