Tropical Depression: Possible Impact on Mauritius Starting Saturday Evening

The tropical depression located east of Agalega continues to strengthen. In a bulletin issued at 4:15 PM this Thursday by the Vacoas meteorological station, it was reported that as of 4:00 PM, the system was centered around 14.1° South and 61.5° East, moving southwest at approximately 15 km/h.

According to meteorological services, the system is expected to gradually develop in an environment conducive to intensification as it approaches St. Brandon. The weather in this region is expected to deteriorate starting Friday evening, with showers becoming moderate to occasionally stormy. Winds will gradually strengthen, with gusts possibly reaching 100 km/h, while the sea will become very rough to strong.

If the system intensifies into a moderate tropical storm, it will be named Gezani by the Vacoas meteorological station.

Furthermore, the bulletin indicates that if the system maintains a southwest trajectory, it could approach Mauritius and affect the weather on the island starting Saturday evening. Scattered showers, becoming more frequent and stormy, are expected from Sunday. Winds may strengthen on Monday, with gusts around 100 km/h, and the sea could become strong to very strong, with swells reaching up to 4 meters.
