Bérenger discusses the suspension of José Arunasalom as President of the Mauritius Tourism Authority

During a press conference following the MMM central committee meeting this Saturday, Paul Bérenger addressed the operations of the Tourism Authority, describing the situation as having devolved into "chaos" and indicating that measures would be taken to restore order within the institution.

The suspension of José Arunasalom from the presidency of the Mauritius Tourism Authority raised several questions. Although he has previously been close to the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM), Bérenger clarified that the party was not involved in his appointment, which was a decision made by Richard Duval.

Bérenger stated that initially, four individuals were supposed to be removed from their positions. However, the Prime Minister ultimately decided to withdraw three termination letters, with the exception of Arunasalom’s. Allegations of sexual harassment were mentioned against him. Nevertheless, upon further investigation, it was determined to be a "precautionary measure" and it was suggested that an inquiry be conducted before any final decision is made.

During the Council of Ministers, Bérenger proposed suspending Arunasalom until the investigation is concluded.

Bérenger also expressed concerns about the existence of a "gang" surrounding the Prime Minister's office, hoping that the situation does not escalate further. For now, the strategy appears to be to hold off until after the celebrations on March 12.

Regarding the situation of Air Mauritius, Bérenger acknowledged that a lot of time has been wasted. He believes that the appointment of Megh Pillay alone will not immediately change the circumstances. The Deputy Prime Minister indicated that he would provide more information following the Independence Day celebrations on March 12.

"Whatever happens, we will be in Parliament," concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.
