Wave of Resignations Following Paul Bérenger's Departure: Thirty-One Positions Affected, According to the Prime Minister
Paul Bérenger's resignation as Deputy Prime Minister on March 20 has triggered a wave of departures within the public administration, affecting parastatal bodies, advisory positions, and other state institutions. In response to a question from Adrien Duval, the opposition Whip, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam stated that "as of April 3, 2026, 31 resignations have been recorded following the resignation of the honorable Paul Raymond Bérenger, GCSK."
Regarding Mauritian missions abroad, no resignations have been reported. However, 18 departures have been noted within parastatal organizations. These include:
March 23, 2026: Ashwen Naidu (Mauritius Film Development Corporation), Kheshaw Kumar Jhummun (Legal Advisor, Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund), Shaad Chellapermal (Chairperson, National Youth Council), and Manorgaren Thirpathee (Board Member, Mauritius Institute of Education).
March 24, 2026: Daniella Bastien (Outer Islands Development Corporation), Lionel Jonathan Lajoie (Conservatoire National de Musique François Mitterrand Trust Fund), Iqbal Calcateea (Mauritius Sports Council), and Dr. Kailash B. Sobha (Mauritius Institute of Education).
March 25, 2026: Critanand Atmah (Mauritius Marathi Cultural Centre Trust), Gabriella Batour (National Heritage Fund), Marie Corina Catherine Christ (National Adoption Council), and Brigitte Roussety (National Women’s Council).
March 30, 2026: Selvanaden Mootoosamy (Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund and National Children’s Council), Nandini Meenackshi Miniandee, and Zara Noa Lennon (National Women’s Sports Commission).
April 1 and 2, 2026: Beebee Sherah Banu Goolfee Noormamode (National Women’s Council) and George David Grenade (Trust Fund for Excellence in Sports).
Six resignations involved advisory positions in ministries. The Prime Minister specified that the following individuals have left their roles:

- Kishore Pertab, Senior Adviser on Policy and Strategic Matters to the former Deputy Prime Minister, on March 20, 2026.
- Daniella Bastien, Senior Adviser on Communication and Strategic Matters to the former Deputy Prime Minister, on March 20, 2026.
- Nabil Moolna, Adviser to the Attorney General, on March 23, 2026.
- Shafick Saalih Ahmad, Senior Adviser to the former Deputy Prime Minister, on March 23, 2026.
- Hishaam Ali Ibrahim, Senior Adviser on Environmental, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change Matters to the Ministry of Environment, on March 23, 2026.
Three resignations were recorded in public enterprises:
- Med Doba, Board Member of State Informatics Ltd, on March 23, 2026.
- Ganesha Singaravelloo, Director of State Investment Corporation Ltd, on March 24, 2026.
- Critanand Atmah, Chairperson of Mauritius Housing Company Ltd, on March 25, 2026.
Four departures occurred within state institutions:
- Kishore Pertab, Director of the Economic Development Board, on March 23, 2026.
- Vishwanaden Singaravelloo, Co-opted Council Member of the National Productivity & Competitiveness Council, on March 24, 2026.
- Gerard Michel Olivier, Member of the Sports Arbitration Tribunal, on March 24, 2026.
- Louis Giovanni Bède Catherine, Member of the Price Observatory Committee, with the letter received on March 30, 2026.
- In response to an additional question from Raviraj Beechook, the Prime Minister clarified that Dany Perrier, Ambassador of Mozambique and sister-in-law of Paul Bérenger, has not submitted her resignation.
