Economic and Social Impacts of the War in the Middle East: Recommendations Submitted to the Crisis Committee Reviewed by the Council of Ministers

The crisis committee responsible for assessing the economic and social impacts of the war in the Middle East convened this afternoon under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam.

Central to the discussions were the security of essential supplies, including fuel stocks, energy resources, and food items, all of which have so far been deemed under control. In an international context marked by instability, these elements are considered critical for ensuring economic continuity and the well-being of the population.

Several proposals were put forward during this meeting. They aim to strengthen strategic reserves, diversify supply sources, and establish rapid response mechanisms in the event of supply disruptions or price increases in international markets, as well as to protect the most vulnerable groups.

These recommendations will be reviewed at the next Council of Ministers meeting scheduled for this Friday. This step will be crucial for the adoption of concrete measures aimed at mitigating the potential effects of the crisis on the Mauritian economy.
