Bérenger Discusses the Possibility of Launching a 'New MMM'

In a video posted on his Facebook page this Thursday, Paul Bérenger, the leader of the Mauves, speaks about the possibility of launching a new party. He states that "if the leaders of the MMM proceed with their 'false delegate assembly' scheduled for this Saturday, we, the true militants, will have no choice but to move forward with a new MMM, a new party, even if it breaks our hearts and even if it is difficult."

Bérenger indicates that in such a scenario, the "true militants" will call for a "real delegate assembly" to officially launch a new MMM. He mentions that he will decide on the next steps starting Monday.

The MMM has been facing an internal crisis for over a month now. Fifteen out of the eighteen Mauve elected officials have chosen to remain in government, while Bérenger, still the party leader, has decided to resign from his position as Deputy Prime Minister. He has been joined by two other MMM deputies, Joanna Bérenger and Chetan Baboolall.

The group of fifteen elected officials who opted to stay in government has called for a delegate assembly this Saturday, April 11, to vote on whether the MMM should remain in government. The party's central committee had already voted, by a large majority, two weeks ago in favor of staying in government.

However, Paul Bérenger describes this meeting as a "false delegate assembly," claiming that "the list of delegates is riddled with irregularities." According to him, the real question should have been: "Were we right, since the end of last year, to denounce the government's misconduct?"
