Shakeel Mohamed, Acting PM: "This has made me admire the Prime Minister even more"

In the absence of Navin Ramgoolam in the country, Shakeel Mohamed, the government's number 3, has been acting as Prime Minister since last night, Tuesday, April 14, for a period of five days. He describes his first day in this role as a "very good day".

"In the morning, I visited the graves of my father and grandfather with my sons. I am very pleased that, for the first time, I reviewed the Cabinet papers to preside over the session this Friday. I thank the support of the staff assigned to the Prime Minister's Office, as well as the Cabinet Secretary for their assistance," said Shakeel Mohamed.

"I am very appreciative of the trust that he (Navin Ramgoolam) has placed in me. It’s a huge responsibility. It takes a lot of energy and courage. The love we have for our country drives us to do things with as much passion and devotion as possible. This has made me admire the Prime Minister even more when I realize what he has to do every day. It’s incredible," expressed the acting Prime Minister.

Shakeel Mohamed was responding to questions from the press after participating in the launch of the book "Community-Identity in a Multicultural Society: An Overview of the Muslim Way of Life in Mauritius" by Assad Bhuglah, which took place in Ebène on the evening of Wednesday, April 15.

Speaking about the book, Shakeel Mohamed stated that "we should all be called to reflect ‘as one people, as one nation’. We need to be able to live together. This is one of the reasons the government is pushing for reflection on electoral reform and the importance of this national unity. What needs to come first is the interest of the nation and the country," he said. More details can be found in the video.

It should be noted that Navin Ramgoolam departed yesterday for the Republic of Congo, where he will attend the inauguration ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso as President.
