[Question Time on Chagos] PM to Joe Lesjongard: 'Thank God you are not the Prime Minister'

A tense exchange occurred between Prime Minister (PM) Navin Ramgoolam and opposition leader Joe Lesjongard during the question time focused on Chagos this Tuesday.

When asked about the potential resettlement of the Chagossians in their islands, including Diego Garcia, the Prime Minister deemed the question premature, citing ongoing legal proceedings in the UK. He also criticized certain actions taken from abroad, stating that they fell under British authority.

In a firm tone, Navin Ramgoolam told Joe Lesjongard: "Thank God you are not the Prime Minister," asserting that his approach would jeopardize the ongoing efforts to restore the Chagos archipelago to Mauritius.
