Leptospirosis: A Patient in Critical Condition After Delayed Treatment

An individual hospitalized at Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital is currently in a "very critical" condition after contracting leptospirosis. This marks the fifteenth case recorded since the start of the year, and health authorities are closely monitoring the situation. According to Dr. Fazil Khodabocus, the patient sought treatment late.

"When he was admitted on April 14, he already had complications related to the disease, such as jaundice. He is experiencing further complications and is currently in the Medical ICU of the facility," stated the interim director of health services. He emphasized the importance of prompt treatment, saying, "If the patient can receive antibiotics quickly, he has a better chance of recovery." Delayed presentation complicates treatment and recovery.

Dr. Khodabocus explained that leptospirosis is transmitted through the urine of infected rats, particularly during rainy periods when contact occurs, such as in fields. "It is important to wear gloves and boots during such activities."

In cases of fever, joint pain, sore throat, or fatigue, he urges the public to seek immediate care at a health center. Individuals should mention any potential contact with rats and specify their professional activities to guide diagnosis and treatment effectively.
