Mpox: Two Men Test Positive After Trip to Madagascar

Mauritius has reported two imported cases of Mpox. These involve two men: a 46-year-old Mauritian and a 31-year-old Comorian national, both of whom recently arrived from Madagascar. The Comorian national, who had fled from the hospital, was located in the afternoon.

Both patients exhibited symptoms such as fever and skin lesions. One has been admitted in isolation at Victoria Hospital in Candos, and the other at Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis, also in isolation.

Their health status is stable, and treatment has commenced, stated Dr. Fazil Khodabocus, director of health services, in a statement to RadioPlus on Wednesday, April 22.

A contact tracing exercise has been immediately initiated.

Dr. Fazil Khodabocus reminds that Mpox is transmitted through close and direct contact with an infected person. The incubation period ranges from five to twenty-one days, with the main symptoms including fever and skin rashes.
