Paul Bérenger: "I don't believe the MMM will go far; they will dissolve in 2-3 months!"

After a meeting held on Thursday evening, Paul Bérenger's movement is refining its strategy for the creation of a new political party. The former leader of the Mauves announced another meeting this Saturday, while increasing his criticisms of the MMM and the government.

The political reshaping around Paul Bérenger is becoming clearer. Gathered on the evening of Thursday, April 23rd, members of his movement held a strategic committee to determine the next steps amidst internal tensions and a reconfiguration of the political landscape. Following this meeting, the former leader of the Mauves remains cautious yet determined to structure future events.

In an interview with Alwin Sungeelee from Défi Media Group/Radio Plus, Paul Bérenger stated that another meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, which he presents as crucial. "On Saturday, we will meet with those who have decided to follow us. Afterwards, if everything is finalized, we will reveal our decisions. Otherwise, we are not in a hurry," he explains. This statement reflects a desire to solidify the foundations before any official announcement.

At the heart of the discussions is the creation of a new political party. On this matter, Paul Bérenger wants to clarify the priorities. Contrary to speculations, the issue of the future party's color is not on the agenda. "For now, we need a name and a symbol. The color comes later," he specifies. This serves as a reminder that steps taken with the Electoral Bureau require formal elements before any identity considerations.

But beyond constructing a new project, the former leader of the Mouvement militant mauricien (MMM) does not hold back his criticisms of his old party. According to him, the MMM as it exists today lacks real political substance. "I don't believe the MMM will go far. They will dissolve in 2-3 months," he asserts, estimating that the party is doomed to disappear in the short term.

In the same vein, Paul Bérenger is particularly harsh on the MMM's presence within the government. He claims that there is no genuine militant representation in the executive. "There is no MMM in the government. There are only opportunists," he states, denouncing what he perceives as an opportunistic drift among some former comrades.

The former MMM leader also mentions a "wave of change" brewing in the country, which he believes is favorable to his approach. Without going into details, he expresses his conviction that the population will eventually vindicate him in the coming months, hinting at a potential political realignment.

Furthermore, Paul Bérenger did not miss the opportunity to comment on the immediate political news, particularly the possible appointment of Arianne Navarre-Marie as Deputy Prime Minister. On this point, he remains reserved, even critical. "I have no opinion on that. When you appoint someone, you need to think about the country first... don't play with fire," he warns, calling for caution in strategic choices at the top of the State.
