Paul Bérenger Launches Konba Militan Progresis
On Saturday, Paul Bérenger officially unveiled the main outlines of his new political movement, Konba Militan Progresis, on Ambrose Street in Rose-Hill. He confirmed that a founding congress will take place in two weeks, indicating that there is a consensus around this name, although no final decision has been made at this point.
The structure of the movement will be established with 20 regional committees, a national committee, and a political bureau. The symbol will represent solidarity, while the choice of color remains open. Since Thursday, 1,361 registrations have already been recorded.
On the municipal front, he clarified that councilors from the MMM will remain in office, except in Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, where mayor Gabriella Batour is stepping down after losing her majority, though she will still serve as a councilor.
Regarding May 1st, he announced a pilgrimage to pay tribute to several historical figures, including Fareed Muttur, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Basdeo Bissoondoyal, and Emmanuel Anquetil.
In Parliament, he mentioned a status quo and reminded that the appointment of the opposition leader is the responsibility of the President of the Republic, while asserting that Chetan Baboolall is ready to take on this role.
Concerning memberships, he assured that "everyone who wants to join us has a place," while excluding certain figures such as Steven Obeegadoo and Alan Ganoo.
When asked about the role of Deputy Prime Minister, he emphasized its mandatory nature and criticized remarks made by Navin Ramgoolam, labeling them as "constitutional nonsense." He also stressed the need to "choose wisely someone who does not represent a risk" regarding the potential appointment of Arianne Navarre-Marie.
