Weather: A Warning for Heavy Rains in Mauritius

A warning for heavy rains is in effect in Mauritius and will remain valid until 7 PM this evening. Active clouds near the island will intermittently affect the local weather, as per the bulletin from the Vacoas meteorological station issued this Tuesday, April 28.

The weather will be cloudy this morning and in the afternoon, with showers. These will be moderate to locally heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms. Temporary water accumulations are likely in flood-prone areas.

The maximum temperature will range from 25 to 27 °C in the central plateau and between 29 and 31 °C in coastal regions.

Moderate to locally heavy showers are still expected in the evening. The sky will be partly cloudy to sometimes overcast afterwards, with occasional moderate showers, especially in the eastern half of the island and in the higher areas.

The minimum temperature will be between 20 and 22 °C in the central plateau and between 24 and 26 °C on the coast.

The wind will blow from the east-northeast at around 20 km/h.

The sea will be rough beyond the reefs, with waves reaching about 2 meters.

The public is advised to:

  • Stay sheltered and avoid low-lying areas, hiking, going out to sea, and not to seek shelter under trees during thunderstorms;
  • Avoid areas prone to water accumulation;
  • Exercise caution on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by showers and fog.
