Synthetic Drugs in Colleges: 80 Suspected Cases Recorded
Eighty suspected cases of synthetic drugs have been reported in colleges between 2016 and March 2026. This figure was presented by the Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, in response to a question from MP Avinash Ramkalawon in Parliament this Tuesday.
All cases have been referred to the police for investigation.
Mahend Gungapersad describes this as a real threat and asserts that his ministry is actively engaged in a fight focused on prevention, deterrence, and support.
Awareness programs are being implemented in colleges, and patrols around schools have been intensified in collaboration with drug enforcement units. Monitoring is also provided for at-risk students.
Mahend Gungapersad emphasizes that his ministry is working with the Attorney General's office regarding children in conflict with the law.
