Synthetic Drugs in Schools: Three Protection Strategies

Eighty. That’s the number of suspected cases of synthetic drug use reported in public and private secondary schools in Mauritius between 2016 and March 2026. Each case has been forwarded to the police in accordance with the established protocol. However, only one case should have raised alarm bells, responded the Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, to MP Ramkalawon, elaborating on a strategy centered around three key areas: prevention, deterrence, and psychosocial support.
