[Feminicide in St-Pierre] Nawsheen Chady, 37, Mother of Two, Beaten to Death by Her Husband
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, St-Pierre experienced a tragic event. Nawsheen Chady, a 37-year-old mother, was brutally beaten to death by her husband, Safwaan Chady, in their backyard on Cemetery Road. She leaves behind two children aged 11 and 12. The incident unfolded just hours after her mother, Roziffa Eckburally, sought police assistance, filing a precautionary measure to report her son-in-law's violent behavior.
Initial investigations revealed that the man, described as a drug addict with unstable behavior, attacked his wife with a metal rod and a pipe, only stopping when she ceased to move. Surveillance cameras captured the horrific assault. An autopsy confirmed that Nawsheen died from a skull fracture accompanied by a brain laceration.
The alleged murderer initially attempted to conceal the truth by claiming that his wife had attacked her own mother and that he had merely acted in defense. This version was quickly disproven by his parents, who told investigators that they were not at home during the incident. Faced with overwhelming evidence, Safwaan Chady eventually confessed. He has been detained and will be temporarily charged with murder.
Nawsheen's devastated family is left in anger and grief. Her mother reported her son-in-law's violent behavior to the police on the morning of the tragedy, stating that he threatened her daughter with death while wielding a metal rod. According to her testimony, it was an alarming call from Safwaan's brother that prompted her urgent return home. He urged her to hurry back because Safwaan was beating his sister and was going to kill her. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, it was too late.
For the victim's family, the inaction of the police has cost a loving mother her life, now mourned by her children and a mother who feels haunted by this preventable loss. The Police Press Office stated that an investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances leading to this tragedy.
