Alleged Police Brutality in Goodlands – DIS-MOI: "This is not law enforcement, but an abuse of power"

"This is not law enforcement, but an abuse of power." The NGO DIS-MOI, through the voice of its torture prevention committee head, reacted to the viral video showing a police officer beating a 25-year-old man in Goodlands with a baton.

For Lawyer Prisca Perianen, no society can claim to respect the rule of law when acts of police brutality are tolerated. She emphasizes that only a court of law is authorized to penalize a person found guilty of an offense.

The lawyer also advocates for the introduction of body cameras within the police force to enhance the transparency of interventions and restore public trust.

According to available information, Hans Emmanuel Juliette is suspected of an acid attack. After escaping from a police station, he was later apprehended in an alley in Goodlands. It was during this intervention that he allegedly suffered police violence, as shown in the widely circulated images on social media.
