Viral Video: Police Reaffirms Its Commitment to Act Within the Law and Professional Standards
The Mauritian police have acknowledged a widely circulated video on social media showing the arrest of a wanted individual, who is also involved in a case of acid attack that occurred in Goodlands.
In a statement issued this Friday, the police claimed that after his arrest, the suspect attempted to flee from the police station but was apprehended with difficulty by the officers. The incident is currently under internal review, and an investigation has been launched. The police reaffirm their commitment to act in accordance with the law and professional standards.
According to available information, 24-year-old Hans Emmanuel Juliette is suspected of having assaulted an individual with a corrosive substance last Tuesday in Goodlands. This accusation is firmly denied by his father, who claims it was not acid. The assault reportedly stemmed from an attempt to pass a counterfeit banknote, which the victim refused to accept.
Arrested early Thursday morning for the offense of “Assault With Corrosive Substances,” the suspect managed to escape from the police station. However, he was later spotted hiding in an alley in Goodlands, where he was re-arrested.
Videos circulating on social media show Hans Emmanuel Juliette lying on the ground while receiving multiple blows from a police baton. Other uniformed officers intervened to help control the situation.
