"We are heading for a serious economic crisis": Paul Bérenger warns
"I am concerned about our finances; we are in a situation where I am saying we are heading for a serious economic crisis... we are going to hit rock bottom," stated Paul Bérenger during a press conference on Monday afternoon following the political bureau of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien.
According to the mauve leader, the country is on the verge of a significant economic crisis. "We are going to hit rock bottom," he asserted, emphasizing that it is especially not the right time to lack a full-time Minister of Finance.
The Deputy Prime Minister believes the country is losing on two fronts: from the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office.
He confirmed that he discussed the situation with the Prime Minister earlier that day. "I told him to appoint a full-time Minister of Finance," he noted.
He also mentioned the upcoming challenges related to the war in the Middle East.
During this press conference, Paul Bérenger announced that he would not attend the National Assembly of Mauritius on Tuesday, when parliamentary work resumes. He also indicated he would see tomorrow whether he should resign from his position as Deputy Prime Minister.
Additionally, he stated that the Central Committee of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien would meet this Wednesday at 3:30 PM at Hennessy Park Hotel. If necessary, the party will then call for its Delegate Assembly.
