Dev Jokhoo: "If today all these prisoners are in jail, it's because their lawyers have failed to defend them"

The former Commissioner of Prisons acknowledges that there is a drug problem within the prison environment. He also states that he had developed a work plan for those found guilty of minor offenses to perform community service instead of serving a prison sentence.

He remarks that the high number of prisoners is due to their lawyers "failing to defend them."

Dev Jokhoo made these statements during an interview with Radio Plus this Monday, following his hearing at the Board of Inquiry which aims to investigate the suspicious death of inmate Andy Selmour.
