The FCC Denies Claims Made by Former Prison Commissioner Dev Jokhoo
The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) has acknowledged the recent public statements made by former prison commissioner Dev Jokhoo, in which he mentioned submitting a list of prison guards suspected of unexplained wealth to the Commission, without any subsequent actions taken.
Upon reviewing its official records, the FCC asserts that it has not received any complaints, reports, or communications of this nature from the prison administration, neither in the current year nor the previous one.
The Commission expresses concern over the dissemination of inaccurate information that could mislead the public. It emphasizes that it acts on any information duly communicated to it, in accordance with the law.
For context, former prison commissioner Dev Jokhoo has spoken out about alleged corrupt practices he claims to have observed within the prison administration. He made these comments to the press following his testimony before the Board of Inquiry, which is investigating the death of Andy Selmour at Melrose Prison. According to him, a Senior Prison Officer suggested that he should behave like his predecessors, who supposedly owned villas and other assets obtained through illicit enrichment.
