Starting this Monday, April 6: MT Implements Three Days of Remote Work per Week
Starting Monday, April 6, Mauritius Telecom (MT) will introduce a remote work policy allowing employees to work from home three days a week. This decision affects about 750 employees, or approximately 40% of the workforce. This initiative is part of a national effort to conserve energy amid rising concerns about energy supply and fuel costs.
The telecommuting program is expected to save around 5,000 kWh of electricity per day and reduce monthly fuel consumption by an estimated 25,000 liters related to commuting.
Mauritius Telecom indicated that this system could be gradually strengthened if necessary, as part of a structured and responsible approach.
Veemal Gungadin, the CEO of Mauritius Telecom, emphasized in a statement that the company is taking steps to ensure the continuity of essential services in the country. He highlighted the importance of maintaining stable operations, readiness of teams, and full assurance of services, stating that this hybrid work model reflects a structured approach to resilience and preparedness.
The company is prepared to intensify this model further if needed, as part of a controlled, well-prepared, and responsible exercise.
