Energy Crisis: Mauritius Telecom Shifts to Hybrid Work Model Next Week

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mauritius Telecom, Veemal Gungadin, has announced the implementation of a hybrid work model starting next week in light of the global energy crisis.

According to him, this decision was made swiftly to ensure operational continuity while reducing energy consumption.

"We have decided to adopt a hybrid model, with two days in the office and three days of remote work," he explains.

Initially, around 40% of the workforce, which translates to between 700 and 750 employees, will be affected, with a potential extension to 60% in the coming weeks.

The CEO emphasizes that this approach also serves as a preparatory measure. "If the situation improves, everything can return to normal. But if it persists, we will be ready to continue," he states.

In terms of savings, Mauritius Telecom estimates it can reduce its fuel consumption by approximately 25,000 liters per month and save up to 5,000 kWh of electricity per day at certain sites.

Veemal Gungadin also specifies that public services, including stores, will remain operational while further encouraging the use of digital solutions.
