Local Government Act: The Exclusion of a Party Results in the Dismissal of a Municipal Elected Official
The decision by the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM) to expel Gabriella Batour impacts her status as a municipal elected official. The current mayor of Beau-Bassin–Rose-Hill will have to resign from her position under a legal provision of the Local Government Act, which states that a municipal councilor resigns in writing from their party, or their party officially notifies that they are no longer a member. Therefore, the MMM must notify the Chief Executive of the municipality in writing.
