Weather: Chenge Shows Signs of Weakening

According to the latest satellite images, the moderate tropical storm Chenge is showing signs of weakening, as reported by the Mauritius Meteorological Services at 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2025, for Agalega.

At 4 PM, Chenge was centered around 10.1° South latitude and 58.8° East longitude, approximately 230 km east of Agalega. It is moving westward at a speed of about 10 km/h. On this trajectory, the storm is approaching the island and still poses a direct threat.

Chenge is expected to pass closest at around 50 km north of Agalega late tonight. The active clouds associated with the system will influence the weather on the island starting this evening, causing moderate to heavy showers, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms.

The wind, blowing from the south at about 50 km/h, will gradually strengthen as Chenge approaches, with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h. The sea will be very rough, with swells of about 6 meters, and it is highly advised not to venture out to sea.

  • Stay sheltered and avoid taking refuge under trees during thunderstorms;
  • Reinforce their homes;
