Drug Operation: Seizure of 300 Kilos of Cocaine Estimated at Rs 4.5 Billion in International Waters
A significant drug operation has led to the seizure of approximately 300 kilos of a substance suspected to be cocaine aboard a Greek-flagged oil tanker, the Alpha Bravery. The local market value of this drug is estimated at Rs 4.5 billion.
The ship's captain notified authorities in Mauritius following the discovery, which occurred on Saturday afternoon while the vessel was en route from South America to Singapore.
As of Sunday morning, the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) and the National Coast Guard (NCG) commandos have been deployed at the port after the ship was intercepted at sea. The oil tanker is expected to arrive in Port Louis in the afternoon, escorted by the NCG.
