Record Seizure of 400 Kilograms of Cocaine off the Coast of Mauritius: Explanations from DASP Suhail Lidialam

In a press conference held at the port on Sunday afternoon, DASP Suhail Lidialam from the Police Press Office confirmed an extraordinary drug seizure off the coast of Mauritius: over 400 kilograms of cocaine.

He explained that on Friday, November 7, 2025, Mauritian authorities were alerted by a local maritime agency that a quantity of drugs had been discovered aboard the Greek-flagged vessel Alpha Bravery, which had originated from Brazil and was heading to Singapore.

The discovery was reported by the captain himself, following an internal search of the ship.

There were 23 crew members on board along with the captain.

DASP Suhail Lidialam stated that upon receiving the information, the relevant authorities decided to allow the vessel to enter Mauritian waters to secure the suspicious cargo.

Once in Mauritian waters, the ship was immediately escorted by the National Coast Guard (NCG) until it reached the vicinity of Mauritius.

Yesterday, a team from MARCOS (Marine Commandos) was dispatched on board to take control of the vessel. The drugs were found in the engine room, a compartment that had already been sealed by the captain before their intervention.

The ship was then directed towards Mauritius on Sunday morning. Around 9 AM, elements from the ADSU, NCG, Maritime Air Squadron, DCIU, and Scene of Crime officers boarded to secure the area.

The ship anchored approximately 2,000 nautical miles from the port.

DASP Suhail Lidialam emphasized that the drugs were extracted by ADSU personnel and transported to Port-Louis by the National Coast Guard.

He indicated that an official weighing exercise would follow, and initial estimates suggest a seizure of about 400 kilograms of cocaine. An investigation has also been launched.
