Death of Andy Selmour: Two Senior Officials from Melrose Prison Suspended
The fallout begins following the tragic death of inmate Andy Selmour, which occurred at Melrose Prison on the night of Tuesday, December 9. A Superintendent of Prisons (SP) and an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP), both on duty at the Eastern High Security Prison of Melrose that day, were informed of their suspensions on Wednesday. This comes as a result of an internal investigation initiated by the prison administration.
This investigation, supervised by the Commissioner of Prisons, Dev Jokhoo, aims to determine accountability and any potential failures in the security management of the Kestrel Ward of the prison.
It is important to note that Andy Selmour, 33 years old and convicted for theft, succumbed to his injuries after a violent attack at Melrose Prison yesterday.
