Arrested for the Murder of His Wife: Beltrami Kemayou Attempts to Escape Under Police Surveillance at SSRN Hospital

Beltrami Bolzano Kemayou, a 24-year-old Cameroonian national, has been under arrest since Sunday, January 4, for the alleged murder of his wife, Sivanee Saminaden. He has been a challenge for the police assigned to monitor him and has disrupted hospital staff in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6.

At around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, under the pretense of feeling unwell, Kemayou managed to persuade the police officers monitoring him at SSRN Hospital in Pamplemousses to remove his handcuffs. Although he was injured, he was not restrained at the feet for humanitarian reasons. Taking advantage of this situation, he attempted to escape from the hospital shortly after, but the two officers immediately called for reinforcements.

It was then that he reportedly became particularly aggressive, hurling insults at the hospital staff and the police present, as well as towards the patients admitted in the Northern hospital room where he is being treated. On Tuesday morning, a report was filed at the SSRN Hospital police station for the offense of "Obstructing a police enquiry" against the suspect.

For context, the lifeless body of 29-year-old Sivanee Saminaden was discovered Sunday morning in the rental house where the couple had been living for about a month, along with their one-year-old baby. The autopsy ruled her death as strangulation. Just after killing his wife, the suspect allegedly threw his baby into an abandoned barrel on a vacant lot near the scene of the crime. The baby was discovered early Sunday, January 4, by neighbors who alerted the police. The baby's condition, still hospitalized, is reported to be stable.

A Suspect Involved in Multiple Cases

Beltrami Kemayou is also accused of attacking a foreign female driver at a red light on the road to Calodyne during the night from Saturday to Sunday. He allegedly bit her nose and lips. He has also been reported for attempting to assault a young man at Anse La Raie beach, where onlookers intervened to apprehend him.

The investigation is being conducted by the Major Crimes Investigation Team and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Northern Division. Once his health is stabilized and he is granted discharge, Beltrami Bolzano Kemayou will be provisionally charged with murder in the Pamplemousses court.
