Noise Pollution on Beaches: The Beach Authority Steps Up Vigilance
The Beach Authority is increasing its vigilance on public beaches to ensure tranquility, safety, and respect for community rules. This decision follows an incident on Sunday, January 25, 2026, involving a group of individuals suspected of causing noise disturbances on Palmar beach, as stated in a press release published this Monday.
According to the authorities, this behavior disrupted the peace of other beachgoers and resulted in aggressive reactions towards police forces who intervened to restore public order.
The Beach Authority emphasizes that, in accordance with the Environment Protection (Control of Noise) Regulations 2008 and the Environment Protection (Environmental Standards for Noise) Regulations 2022, any noise that constitutes a nuisance is prohibited. The use of sound amplifiers in public places also requires prior authorization from the relevant authorities, under penalty of sanctions.
In close coordination with the police force, including the Environmental Police, the Beach Authority asserts that it will take all necessary measures to enforce existing regulations. It urges the public to practice civility, adhere to the noise limits set by law, and contribute to maintaining the peaceful and welcoming nature of public beaches.
It is important to note that on Sunday, police intervened at Palmar beach following complaints of noise pollution. At the scene, hostile individuals insulted law enforcement officials and threw bottles at a police vehicle.
