Incidents Involving Police at Palmar Beach: Seven Suspects Arrested, One Released on Bail

Seven suspects were arrested by the police on Monday, January 26, while an eighth was released on bail. All are under investigation for rebellion following incidents that occurred at the public beach of Palmar in the East on the afternoon of Sunday, January 25.

The individuals involved are:

• Varun Treebhowon, 38, from Petit-Raffray
• Sanil Ganga, 36, from Roche-Terre
• Jean-Désiré Laval Thomas, 34, from Palmar
• Gunesh Treebhowon, 29, from Petit-Raffray
• Akshaye Keerpah, 25, from Belvédère
• Tissan Kumar Goongur, 23, from Camp-de-Masque Pavé
• Rajiv Gadadhar, 22, from Poste-de-Flacq
• Ittish Jowrah, 20, from Poste-de-Flacq (released on bail)

The seven arrested suspects will spend the night in custody and will be presented on Tuesday before the Flacq court, facing a provisional charge of rebellion.

These arrests follow a police intervention targeting partygoers for noise pollution, which escalated shortly afterward at Palmar public beach.
