March 12: "A Surprise," says Shakeel Mohamed, Elevated to GCSK

On March 12, the list of awardees from the Republic was revealed. Each year, these honors celebrate Mauritians who have distinguished themselves in politics, public service, sports, religion, the economy, or civil society.

This year, the highest honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK), was awarded to Rajesh Bhagwan, Jean-Claude de l’Estrac, Shakeel Mohamed, and Seychellois President Patrick Herminie.

"It's a surprise," confides the Minister of Lands and Housing, Shakeel Mohamed, who admits he did not expect this recognition.

"For me, this distinction is a sign of confidence placed in me by the Prime Minister."
