Middle East War: Labour Municipal Councillor Atish Aubeeluck Requests a 50% Cut in His Allowances
In light of the difficulties faced by many Mauritian families, Labour municipal councillor Atish Aubeeluck from Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill believes that "staying in comfort is not an option."
With this in mind, he submitted a request yesterday to the Chief Executive of the municipality to reduce his municipal councillor allowances by 50%.
According to Atish Aubeeluck, this initiative is primarily a gesture of solidarity towards the population. It is also inspired by the initiative of Labour MP Eshan Juman, who recently requested a 20% salary reduction for a period of six months.
"We all know that the country is going through very difficult times. It is crucial to make a decision to support the population," he stated.
The municipal councillor claims that this decision reflects his vision of political engagement.
"As a young councillor, this decision aligns perfectly with my belief in doing things differently. Not long ago, I also renounced the privileges associated with my position, such as a phone and a laptop. I am here to serve," he added.
Despite the current economic situation, Atish Aubeeluck assures that his commitment to serving the residents remains unchanged.
