Weather: Strong Swell Warning in Effect, Sea Outings Discouraged
Mauritius is under a strong swell warning since 4:00 AM this Friday, May 1st. This warning will remain in effect until 4:00 AM tomorrow, Saturday, May 2nd, according to the weather bulletin issued by the Vacoas meteorological station this morning.
As a result, the sea will be very rough beyond the reefs, with south-west swells of about 4 meters. Waves could crash onto low-lying coastal areas in the west and south, especially during high tide.
Fishermen, boaters, and the general public are strongly advised not to venture out to sea, and during high tides, to avoid going onto the beaches.
Additionally, clouds associated with the remnants of a frontal system are intermittently influencing local weather.
"The weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy this morning, with intermittent rain mainly affecting the southern half of the island and the central plateau. These rains could be locally moderate. Generally partly cloudy in the afternoon, with light rain in the highlands," the meteorological services indicate.
The sky will be rather cloudy during the night, with intermittent rain mainly in the east, south, and central plateau. Pockets of fog are expected, especially in the highlands.
Temperatures
The maximum temperature will range from 23 to 26 °C in elevated areas and from 28 to 30 °C in coastal regions. The minimum temperature will fluctuate between 19 and 21 °C in the central plateau and between 23 and 25 °C along the coast.
Winds will blow from the southeast at around 25 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h in some areas.
