Richard Duval Defends His Decision Regarding the Tourism Authority

Tourism Minister Richard Duval has expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the criticisms made by Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Paul Bérenger concerning the recent management of the Mauritius Tourism Authority. When questioned about the statements made by the MMM leader during his press conference on Saturday, the minister sought to clarify the reasons for the suspension of José Arunasalom, asserting that he acted out of a commitment to transparency and accountability.

Reflecting on the events of Friday, March 6, Richard Duval explained that his decision was not arbitrary but based on precise information in his possession. He stated that it was necessary to act swiftly to avoid any confusion or controversy in the management of the institution.

"The statements made by the DPM speak for themselves. If an employee mistreats their staff, that is an obvious reason for suspension. I would never make a decision based on unfounded matters!" he declared.

The minister also emphasized that the tourism sector is a major pillar of the Mauritian economy and that his ministry must ensure the proper functioning of the associated institutions. Any situation that could harm the credibility or proper management of the MTA, he believes, should be dealt with firmly.

Richard Duval acknowledged that the controversy surrounding this matter has particularly irritated him: "I must say that my ministry carries an incredible responsibility. We manage a key sector for the country's economy. I am very annoyed by the events that have occurred."

In conclusion, the minister reaffirmed his determination to maintain order and discipline within the institutions under his authority: "Wherever there is a need for order, I will impose it," he stressed.

When contacted, José Arunasalom simply replied: "Totally false."
